A Luxury Private Island Escape In The British Virgin Islands

The good news is that it’s probably a lot easier to get to than you may be thinking. Alison’s journey started with a flight to Antigua, where she arrived nicely timed for a connecting VI Airlink service (that operates on a Friday and a Saturday). With no unnecessary hanging about, she was on her way to Tortola in The British Virgin Islands before she knew it. It took just forty minutes to fly there and the final stretch of her journey was a twenty-minute boat transfer to Peter Island. In fact, the island can only be accessed by boat or helicopter, which adds to its feel of blissful seclusion.

The first thing that Alison felt compelled to tell us is that the staff at Peter Island Resort & Spa are amazing. They received the warmest of welcomes, particularly from Jean who has worked at the resort for many years and remembers Alison. You can be sure of their friendliness and attentiveness throughout your stay − Alison said that she was never left wanting for anything.

All accommodation here is very charming, but Alison was lucky enough to be shown to a Beachfront Junior Suite which is just steps away from one of the most spectacular beaches in the Caribbean. As well as everything she expected to find, she also had a private balcony, two-person Jacuzzi tub and the most stunning ocean views. We’re sure you’ll agree that this is the stuff that dream holidays are made of.

The island itself is stunning and there are 1,800 acres of tropical heaven to explore. Lush palm groves, green mountains and pristine beaches are all waiting to be discovered. As you may imagine, Alison told us that there were many highlights of her holiday. She loved ‘Sunset at the Loop’ that takes place every evening between 5pm and 6.30pm where, glass of chilled Champagne in-hand with cheese and fruit to nibble on, she watched the sun set from the most beautiful spot on Peter Island.

There are five beaches and at a mile long Deadman’s Beach is the biggest. Legend has it that the beach was named after pirates who were marooned on neighboring Dead Chest Island and eventually washed up on the shores at Peter Island! Today, it’s definitely the place to simply make the most of the warm water and Alison said that she enjoyed some of the best snorkelling ever. She saw lots of different, very pretty fish and even caught a glimpse of a Stingray. If you prefer, you can take advantage of a variety of water sports including windsurfing, do some sailing, or perhaps just relax with beach service to hand.

Another of Alison’s favourite highlights was a picnic on Honeymoon Beach, which as the name suggests, is hidden away and very quiet. Alison was taken there in a golf cart and was left in peace until the afternoon when a delicious picnic arrived for her to savour whilst gazing at the enchanting views. She was also given a mobile phone to use in case she needed anything at any point, so she really didn’t need to move at all. You can easily forget that there are other guests on the island and she highly recommends booking this experience as part of a romantic escape here.
