The Mayakoba region offers superb diving opportunities, in particular around the area of Cozumel, with its world-famous cenotes (underwater caves), year-round warm waters and diving visibility of up to two-hundred metres. Banyan Tree Mayakoba does not have on-site diving facilities, but with such unmissable treats to be found only a little way away, it is well worth leaving the resort for. Allow staff to organise an unforgettable diving trip to Cozumel and you won't be disappointed.

The children's Beach Club is open all-year-round from 9am to 5pm (for 5 to 12-year-old youngsters) and is located near Sands restaurant. Complimentary activities include kayaking, snorkelling and boogieboarding, while Xbox consoles, movies with popcorn and board games are also available to keep young ones entertained.

Babysitting is available at an additional charge, payable locally.

Golfers will marvel at the terrain of the 18-hole El Camaleon golf course and the challenge its terrain presents (the par 3s earning the greatest praise). El Camaleon has three, very different, eco-systems and players are led through jungle and mangroves, then faced with open-cave obstacles and the water's edge and sandy beach, which are only a swing away. Misjudge the proximity of your surroundings and you'll lose your golf balls to the depths of a canal or the Caribbean Sea!

Designed by the Australian professional golfer, Greg Norman, the course is co-shared by neighbouring resorts and causes quite a stir in the golfing community. Home to the Mexican PGA tour, the course, bound to a demanding figure-of eight-structure designed to cause minimum disturbance to the natural surroundings, ensures a dramatic and enthralling game. Additionally, there is a 350-yard, double-ended driving range, while professional golf tuition is available at the Jim McLean Golf Academy.

Health & Fitness

The award-winning Banyan Tree Mayakoba Spa offers an extensive spa treatment menu, mixing traditional remedies from Eastern Asia with age-old Mayan techniques. Treatments restore physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing while uplifting and awakening the soul.

The Rainforest treatments, unique to Banyan Tree, are innovative holistic remedies combining a hydrothermal circuit entwined with hot and cold thermal cabins, where guests can embark on the Rainforest Trail, weaving through eight different hydrothermal therapy stations, from steam chambers to ice fountains. Truly unique and blissful.

In Addition

The resort boasts an excellent beachfront location in the heart of Riviera Maya, and is perfectly placed for exploration of a number of world-famous ancient sites, established by the Mayan civilisation many centuries ago.

129 kilometres south of Riviera Maya is the picturesque, beachfront town of Tulum, which incorporates one of the best-preserved Mayan sites. Popular with tourists, the town has an iconic ruin on its lush cliff edge, which leads down to a swathe of beautiful sandy beach and turquoise sea. While here, you can take an eco-tour, then enjoy a spot of snorkelling amongst the Grand Cenotes that lie just a few miles away.

Chichen Itza, the most famous Mayan site in the area, is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and, as such, tends to attract a huge number of visitors throughout the year. In fact, it is the second most visited Mayan site in Mexico. We recommend that the best times to visit are first thing in the morning or later on in the evening, as the searing heat of the midday sun and huge number of visitors can be an unappealing combination.

Coba - one of the largest Mayan sites - is located a thirty-minute drive inland from Tulum and is set amongst lush jungle terrain, which adds a mysterious element to its ruined buildings. The site is huge, but it is possible to hire a bike and ride around it or take a tricycle cab tour to get you around the area more speedily. Alternatively, take a pleasant walk along the trails, looking out for Howler Monkeys, butterflies and tropical birds.
