Belle Mont Farm, on St Kitts, is one of the most exciting additions to the Caribbean's portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts for some time, and it is certainly a very interesting addition to ours! Already collecting a number of honourable mentions in publications such as The Daily Telegraph - which cited the property as one of the 'Top 50 Honeymoon Hotels of 2015' - and Conde Nast Traveller, which included it in their prestigious 'Hot List' for 2015, Belle Mont Farm has caused quite a stir since it opened in December 2014; in part for its 'sustainable luxury' approach and also its spectacular location on the lush-green Kittitian Hill. Set amongst four-hundred acres of farmland and tropical rainforest, this visionary resort promises the ultimate in luxurious island living, augmented by a healthy twist of ethical and sustainable living, plus organically farmed produce that forms the basis of the resort's sublime cuisine, which is supplemented by locally sourced meat and fish. Guests of Belle Mont Farm can look forward to delightful colonial-style decor in their accommodation, which ranges from one-bedroom Guesthouses, to four-bedroom Villas - some with their own infinity-edge swimming pool. Dotted across the hillside in a horseshoe-shaped configuration, they surround the central hub of the resort, The Great House, featuring the resort's main swimming pool and restaurant. Heading up the hill behind the resort, guests in need of pampering can find their nirvana at Mango Walk Spa, while further relaxation can be found on the nearby black-sand beach, where a number of complimentary non-motorised watersports can be enjoyed, or on the 'edible' 18-hole Irie Fields golf course, designed by Ian Woosnam.

Upon arrival, there is a private beach club with a beach bar, where guests can sunbathe, enjoy cocktails and participate in a relaxing game of dominos, if they wish. For slightly more active adventure, guests can grab a set of snorkelling gear and explore the exciting underwater world, comprising coral reefs and colourful tropical fish.

It is possible to charter a boat and enjoy sailing around the island, discovering it's exquisite natural beauty from a different perspective, along with views of neighbouring islands such as St Barths and St Martin.

Belle Mont Farm is recommended for families with children aged ten years old and over, but children of all ages are welcome to stay. Although there isn't a children's club at the resort, a selection of activities suitable for young guests over ten years of age are on offer and include cookery classes, foraging with the local farmers, hiking, mountain-biking, junior tennis and golf, and watersports such as snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding. In addition, there is a petting zoo nearby.

The three and four-bedroom villas are a particularly good option for families with children under nine years of age. Each villa allows for greater privacy and boasts spacious accommodation - including a gourmet kitchen where guests can either create their own meals or employ the services of the resort's chefs to conjure up a range of organic meals tailored to the specific requirements of the family. The ability to make use of Belle Mont Farm's resort features, such as its restaurants, spa, golf course and nearby beach, increase this resort's appeal to families significantly.

Irie Fields golf course is due to open mid-December 2016 and promises to be a super experience for golfers of all levels of ability. British professional golfer, Ian Woosnam is the designer of the par-71, 18-hole course, which weaves a route through gorgeous tropical farmland and fruit orchards and provides fabulous panoramic views of the sea. In line with Belle Mont Farm's policy of sustainability, the fairways are maintained organically using a state-of-the-art irrigation system, while as the world's first 'edible' golf course, golfers will be encouraged to walk Irie Fields with caddies from the local academy, who will be able to share tips on the course and point out where the ripest fruit can be picked and enjoyed under the shade of a calabash tree - a blissful, relaxing golf experience if every there was one.

Health & Fitness

Located at the summit of Kittitian Hill, Mango Walk Spa is a peaceful sanctuary set within an ancient mango grove and is perfect for restful contemplation, mediation and reflection. Indigenous treatments, using organic ingredients grown at Belle Mont Farm, have been devised in partnership with Sedona Resorts and include the 90-minute Mount Liamuiga Massage. Treatments may be enjoyed on the edge of the forest in treatment rooms, or amongst the natural pools that pepper the site.
In addition, Belle Mont Farm boasts a 24-hour gym boasting treadmills, free weights, a cross-trainer, cycle and step machine. Personal trainers are available, upon request.

The resort is a fabulous location in which to enjoy guided fitness walks and bike rides. Belle Mont Farm has a heavy bias towards creating a spiritualising environment for guests to enjoy, taking full advantage of its enriching rural environment - stimulating, energising and restorative in equal measure, and wonderful for unwinding.

In Addition

There is a wealth of activities and excursions to enjoy while staying at Belle Mont Farm, including surfing, snorkelling, eco tours, bird-watching and hiking. Trekking to the summit of Mount Liamuiga will reward you with spectacular panoramic views across the sea to a crater amusingly known to the locals as 'Giant's Salad Bowl', while guests staying at Belle Mont Farm can participate in daily vegetable harvesting on the farm's grounds, village artisanal walks and picnics in secret spots on the farm.

Head to Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled atop an 800-feet-high hill, to experience a historical and cultural journey stretching back some four-hundred years. This well-preserved fortress, made of local volcanic rock, took one-hundred years to build and became a significant military outpost in 1790. The views of the nearby forest, fields and neighbouring islands are splendid, while the fortress' museum will provide the historical background and significance of the site.

Explore the island in an antique locomotive on a scenic St Kitts Scenic Railway Tour. This narrow-gauge railway began in 1910 to cope with the development of the sugar industry on the island. Still in use today, the train navigates its way around a large part of the island.

Visit The Strip during the day to enjoy a spot of sunbathing, the bars and restaurants, or visit in the evening to have dinner or soak up the lively atmosphere at a number of venues that offer musical entertainment (such as steel bands) and live DJs, allowing you to strut your stuff on the dancefloor, should you wish.

In addition, there are botanical gardens, manor houses, churches, plantation houses and sugar mills to discover, while one of the island's most interesting museums is the one devoted to the hymn, 'Amazing Grace'. John Newton's powerful words reflect his journey from slave trader to a champion for the abolition of slavery and his famous hymn's links with St Kitts provide a fascinating insight into the island's history.
