Okavango Delta
Botswana is blessed with some of Africa’s most beautiful wilderness areas. The country is dominated by the Kalahari Desert, the world's largest expanse of unbroken sand, and this is where you will find the incredible Okavango Delta − one of the largest inland water systems in the world. Each year, it turns into a thriving ecological paradise, courtesy of tectonic plate shifts that swell the Kwando River and flood the plains. During the dry season, from May to October, the Delta becomes a sanctuary for animals as they venture towards the water in the flooded areas to drink and graze in almost incomprehensible numbers. In turn, this creates a spectacle that is not replicated anywhere else in the world. Species that may be seen during this time include the elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippo, rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, impala, African Wild Dog and wildebeest.

An explosion of new life, allows predators to take full advantage of the abundance of inexperienced young whilst the receding water levels reveal more open areas populated by the grazing game species and make the islands and plains more accessible.

By contrast, from November to April, the wet season brings with it the opportunity to encounter lush vegetation and dramatic skies - perfect for birdwatchers and photographers. Expect to encounter bird species such as the Lilac-breasted Roller, Greater Flamingo, Red-crested Cuckoo and African Spoonbill.

The Linyati Wildlife Reserve
Located further north of the Delta, this area is a wonderfully isolated area boasting stunning scenery and prolific numbers of animals and birds, including herds of elephants that reach enormous densities in the dry winter months. Additionally, you'll find species of zebra, antelope, buffalo, wildebeest, hyaena, lion, leopard and cheetah, along with wild dogs, no doubt attracted by the marshes, waterways, riverine forests and grassland. −

Health facilities, hygiene and disease risks vary worldwide and you should take health advice about your specific needs as early as possible. We highly recommend that you seek specialist advice from your Doctor and, where recommended, obtain vaccinations or tablets for protection against, for example: Malaria, Hepatitis A, Polio and Typhoid. In some cases, treatments for Malaria should begin well in advance of travel. Travellers may also be required to show Yellow Fever Certificates on arrival in certain destinations ie, some African countries. Please note that you are strongly advised against scuba-diving for 24 hours before travelling by air. We would also like to draw your attention to the risk of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and recommend that you consult with your doctor before travelling.

Visa and Advance Passenger Information

All passengers must ensure they have valid, acceptable passport, any required visa and any other documentation for both the final destination and any stop-off points en route. Please make sure that Advance Passenger Information is submitted in advance to travel for all destinations. Failure to hold correct documentation or submitting incorrect details with Advance Passenger Information or Visa applications may result in refusal of carriage or entry into a country. Please check with the relevant Embassy regarding visa requirements well in advance of your travel date. Charges may apply for some visas.

Travelling With Children or Without an Adult

Children travelling without both parents should be aware that some countries require documentary evidence of parental responsibility before allowing lone parents to enter the country (for example, South Africa) or, in some cases, before permitting the children to leave the country. Please contact the relevant Embassy for the county you are travelling to for further information.

Botswana's climate is semi-arid making the winter months (from May to August) the best and most popular time to visit as the grass is sparse and animals are easier to spot. However, during the summer (from November to March) Botswana’s becomes a kaleidoscopic paradise with an explosion of new life, allowing predators to take full advantage of the abundance of inexperienced young. The receding water levels reveal more open areas populated by grazing game species and make the islands and plains more accessible.
