Executive Assistant to Senior Management

When Sally Chapman did a recce of a new villa resort for the Elegant Resorts portfolio, she came back a firm fan. We’ve got a good feeling about Apes Hill Club  in Barbados ; Sally says it’s lovely and if you’re a golfer you’ll be particularly impressed.

At its heart is a stunning par-72 championship golf course, which was recently rated one of the best and most environmentally-friendly in the world. We’re told a challenging and spectacular game can be had, especially at holes such as the signature sixteenth that is set within a coral-stone quarry. There is also a clubhouse complete with a swimming pool, a casual dining venue, a bar and a full-service golf shop, so you’ve everything to hand for a great day on the course. Double the delight for the discerning lover of outdoor sports, Apes Hill also features a world-class polo facility with regular tournaments taking place between December and May. And, if it’s good enough for Prince Harry – who has played there – then it’s certainly good enough for us! Elegant Resorts can even pre-arrange a polo lesson if you fancy following in his royal footsteps.

Sally says that the luxury Apes Hill Club resort also ‘wows’ with its unique views of both the east and west coasts of Barbados – a pleasing result of its central island location, that’s about 1,000 feet above sea level (and about one and a half miles further up the hill from Royal Westmoreland). At this height you’ll be sure to benefit from the lovely tradewinds breeze during your stay too. A choice of three-bedroom Polo Villas and Golf Villas await, but Sally – who likes her luxuries –felt especially at home in one of the Golf Villas, as these have great golf course views, a private plunge pool and are more spacious than the Polo Villas. As if that isn’t enough, all villas come with a season pass to watch the polo and access to a Beach Club and tennis courts, whilst extras including in-villa Chef services and spa treatments can easily be organised should you wish.

Elegant Travel Tip
One final tip from Sally is to hire a car so you can explore further afield easily, and Holetown and Speightstown are only about a ten-minute-drive away.
