Our luxury hotels can be found in the capital city of Athens, where the Acropolis and the Parthenon should be on your list of things to see, while there are many fine museums and incredible shopping opportunities too, and from Hotel Grande Bretagne, A Luxury Collection Hotel, you can easily enjoy it all. We also feature The Peloponnese – a large peninsula in southwest Greece connected to the mainland at two points; the Isthmus of Corinth and the Rio-Antirio Bridge – the perfect complement to bustling Athens as it boasts stunning countryside dotted with olive trees and vineyards, back-dropped by green mountains areas and unspoilt coastline. Meanwhile, Halkidiki and the gorgeous islands of Crete, Mykonos and Santorini, are perfect for a relaxing beach escape. Greece is the perfect place for some island-hopping too.

Please note that due to Greek Government changes in VAT rates, charges for restaurants, catering and transport, may be increased during 2015.

Health facilities, hygiene and disease risks vary worldwide and you should take health advice about your specific needs as early as possible. We highly recommend that you seek specialist advice from your Doctor and, where recommended, obtain vaccinations or tablets for protection against, for example: Malaria, Hepatitis A, Polio and Typhoid. In some cases, treatments for Malaria should begin well in advance of travel. Travellers may also be required to show Yellow Fever Certificates on arrival in certain destinations ie, some African countries. Please note that you are strongly advised against scuba-diving for 24 hours before travelling by air. We would also like to draw your attention to the risk of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and recommend that you consult with your doctor before travelling.

All passengers must ensure they have valid, acceptable passport, any required visa and any other documentation for both the final destination and any stop-off points en route. Please make sure that Advance Passenger Information is submitted in advance to travel for all destinations. Failure to hold correct documentation or submitting incorrect details with Advance Passenger Information or Visa applications may result in refusal of carriage or entry into a country. Travelling With Children or Without an Adult

Children travelling without both parents should be aware that some countries require documentary evidence of parental responsibility before allowing lone parents to enter the country (for example, South Africa) or, in some cases, before permitting the children to leave the country. Please contact the relevant Embassy for the county you are travelling to for further information.

Greece is a sprawling country, but generally the most pleasant times to visit are the months of June and September. The hottest months are July and August when temperatures soar and the heat in cities such as Athens can be a bit uncomfortable, while coastal or island locations offer more of a breeze and the opportunity to cool off in the sea. During winter and early spring can be quite showery and windy.

In Halkidiki on the mainland, April to June and September to October are warm and dry, while temperatures in July and August can be quite high.

Between May and September the island of Crete enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate with hot dry days and warm, pleasant evenings. Winters are mild, but do expect rain.

Mykonos winds help to maintain a warm and refreshing temperature on the island and from mid April to the end of October is a very pleasant time to visit.

Santorini boasts hot and dry summers, June and July peak at an average temperature of 29˚C, whereas the sea will be at its warmest from August until October.

Greek Mainland
Greece is home to some of the world's most prized architecture and on the mainland we feature Athens, which is perfect for a city break including some of the world’s most notable archaeological sites. Hotel Grande Bretagne, A Luxury Collection Hotel is the perfect place to enjoy impressive views of both the Acropolis and Parthenon without leaving the comfort of your luxury hotel. There are many fine museums too and, of course, shops, restaurants and bars.

The Peloponnese, meanwhile, is also steeped in ancient Greek history and legends with places of interest including Olympia – the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, the Medical Sanctuary of Asclepius and the Amphitheatre in Epidaurus that still hosts Greek drama performances to this day.

If you're looking for a luxury beach holiday, Halkidiki is an excellent destination. It is made up of three peninsulas – Kassandra, the busiest and the most visited, Sithonia, with its unspoilt fishing villages and rugged, pine-forested interior, and Mount Athos which is home to twenty monasteries (and can only be visited by men).

Greek Islands
Greece is the perfect place to go island hopping and there are plenty of islands to start from, each with an individual character. Crete is the largest and most diverse, with a host of historic treasures and spectacular mountain ranges, pretty Mykonos is dotted with windmills and gorgeous white-washed buildings, Santorini is raised up on an ancient volcanic crater and is a romantic destination, while Zakynthos, where we feature luxury villa resort, Porto Zante Villas and Spa, has rich flora and is an important breeding place for Loggerhead Turtles. However, all of the islands have certain things in common; the gorgeous beaches, fantastic cuisine and breathtaking seascapes.

Try Greek dishes including the classic dish, moussaka (minced meat and aubergines in a rich sauce), Greek salads with feta cheese, tomato and onion, kleftiko (a slow-roasted lamb dish), beef stifado (a beef, onion and tomato casserole) and souvlaki (seasoned meat and vegetables cooked on the skewer and served in a pitta bread), as well as snacks including tzatziki (a yogurt and cucumber dip), stuffed tomatoes or Greek yogurt drizzled with honey. Of course, fresh fish is often served up in the local restaurants and tavernas and is delicious. If you wish to try some Greek wine, the region beyond Sitia in Crete is covered in vineyards that produce highly commendable wines, especially whites. There are many excellent hotel restaurants; if you’re looking for gourmet Greek cuisine, restaurants include Dionyssos (named after the Greek God of Wine) at Elounda Beach Hotel & Villas, while traditional Greek tavern-style venues include the delightful Blue Door at Blue Palace, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa.

As well as elegant boutiques in towns including Mykonos Town, Thira in Santorini, and of course, Athens, there are many traditional shops with local items to purchase. Religious icons, sponges, olive oil-based products for the skin and hair and spices are all lovely souvenirs. For jewellery, seek out famous Greek jewellers, such as Ilias Lalaounis.
