The massive Iguazú National Park covers a total area of one hundred and eighty five thousand hectares, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. The dramatic highlight of this glorious natural beauty is Iguazú Falls, standing at a height of 72 metres and forming a 2,700-metre-wide semicircle. One of the largest and most remarkable waterfalls on Earth, it comprises between one hundred and fifty to three hundred separate falls, depending on the river flow. The immense clouds of spray produced from this incredible natural wonder helps to create the lush fauna and flora found in the park. As you might expect, wildlife is prevalent, with Iguazú National Park being home to over five hundred different animal species. Some of these are rare and endangered, such as the Giant Otter and the Giant Anteater. In addition, the rich biodiversity has around two thousand different plant species, too.

The various intertwining pathways in the park are a great way to view the stunning natural beauty and environment. The Poço Preto (the Black Well) trail is a great activity on offer, as it navigates the Iguazú River, takes you over impressive suspended footbridges and visits a ten-metre-high observation tower. From here, spectacular panoramic views of the park and forest can be enjoyed, particularly Lagoa do Jacare (Alligator Pond), which is home to a diverse collection of marine wildlife.
