Overview+

With over 300 days of sunshine a year and only a short-haul flight from the UK, Lanzarote is the ideal location for a relaxing luxury beach holiday with plenty of activities for all the family. The Canary Islands are the classic holiday destination, famed for their sublime sun, sea and sand but Lanzarote is fast developing a reputation for luxury and exclusivity.

Lanzarote is famed for its captivating lunar landscape, the beauty of which has seen the ingénue island receive UNESCO biosphere reserve status in order to protect the extraordinary ecology of this glorious suntrap.

The island owes much of its iconic design to the artistic talents of its native architect and environmentalist, César Manrique, who faught tirelessly to protect his beloved homeland from over-commercialisation and development to ensure the island remained an icon of natural abundance and riches. Manrique’s substantial legacy and influence on the island is still visible across modern-day Lanzarote, with much of the culture and geographical plain indebted to his vibrant vision. His work and tributes are amongst some of this action-packed island’s most popular attractions.

Lanzarote is infused with Spanish sensibilities, right down to the mesmerising Mediterranean climate and endless epicurean experiences, including the island’s signature papas arrugadas. The island also enjoys African and Moorish influences in the architecture and historically significant sites. A beguiling blend of cultures and traditions, Lanzarote relishes the opportunity to impress and intrigue.

Lanzarote’s warm, dry and stable climate makes it an all-year-round destination, with no end of options for how you spend those sundrenched days. Outlined in blissfully beguiling beaches, stunning scenery and an endless array of eateries across the island, Lanzarote is a delightful destination for any travel tastes.

Nestled in the North Atlantic Ocean, just off the West African coast, Lanzarote is an island infused with interesting and intriguing elements waiting to be uncovered. With a wealth of fabulous family-friendly facilities, outdoor adventure opportunities and plenty of delightful dining options on the menu, Lanzarote is sure to be a captivating Canary Island getaway.

The island comprises many of the archipelago’s best beaches and has more natural attractions and points of interest than many of its smaller neighbours. From cultural to culinary, Lanzarote will have a highlight to savour long after your tan has faded. The island’s capital, Arricefe, is a modern metropolis, home to a picturesque port and many shops, parks and the island’s most lively nightlife.

Playa Blanca

Located on the island’s stunning south coast, Playa Blanca began life as a sleepy fishing town, but the picturesque setting soon won many hearts and Lanzarote locals and guests plumped for Playa Blanca as their setting for endless island days, dreaming and soaking up the charming Canary ambience. At its core, Playa Blanca remains true to these origins, but enjoys elevated status as a modern yacht marina with upmarket boutiques, bars and eateries facing enjoying stunning views across the Atlantic Ocean and eponymous ‘white beach’; ‘Playa Blanca’ in Spanish.

In recent years, Playa Blanca has enjoyed tasteful development and investment, making it the ideal location for a luxury family beach holiday with exciting activities for all. Within the vicinity of Playa Blanca there are many stunning beaches, entertainment facilities and amenities to explore during your luxurious Lanzarote escape.

Climate+

Although belonging to Spain , the Canary Islands are actually closer to the African coastline and this means that Lanzarote enjoys mild temperatures year-round. It is a particularly popular winter sun destination, as the island boasts the lowest temperature difference between summer and winter in the world. Summer temperatures bring the hottest days, when hot, dry air is blown over to the island from the Sahara Desert – however, by the time it crosses the Atlantic Ocean it has been somewhat cooled. There may also be some fog and cloud cover during the summer, but temperatures near sea level generally remain warm. On the north shores there tends to be more wind and rainfall, while the south shores tend to be drier. In the winter there may be short periods of stormy weather and rain. For those who like to swim in the sea, the Atlantic Ocean waters remain quite cool year-round.

Highlights+

Marina Rubicón

The newest development in Playa Blanca is a modern marina complex, complete with shopping village and a glamorous array of seafront restaurants and bars. Marina Rubićon is fast-establishing a reputation as the location of choice for the island’s elite and is also home to many of Lanzarote’s best aquatic adventure retailers, with diving, sailing and yacht charter all directly available from the marina.

Fuerteventura

With the Canaries a sunny cluster of inviting islands, it would be a shame not visit neighbouring Fuerteventura during your time in Lanzarote. Public ferry trips to Fuerteventura are easily arranged, whilst you may decide to increase the indulgence and charter a luxury yacht, the scenic journey takes just thirty minutes. Fuerteventura is twice the size of Lanzarote, but is predominantly uninhabited and a wealth of volcanic and mountainous landscapes. A day trip to Fuerteventura is a fabulous way to soak up the sun, Canarian culture and experience a captivating landscape, which feels a world away from any traditional beach holiday setting.

Beaches

Playa Blanca is home to a trio of Blue Flag beaches. The main beach, Playa Blanca, is a popular and family-friendly stretch of soft sand and cool waters, however the neighbouring Playa Flamingo is within walking distance of Playa Blanca’s marina and remains something of a hidden gem, don’t be surprised to find local fishermen sourcing the day’s octopus and barracuda from this beach’s beautiful waters. In equally convenient proximity is Playa Dorada, meaning ‘Golden Beach’, which is the hub of watersport activity for those seeking an adventurous day at sea.

Waterpark

Younger travellers are sure to delight in Lanzarote’s two waterparks. Dino Park is located in Playa Blanca and is a small but substantial waterpark with a range of rides for adults and specialist children’s slides. The island’s main waterpark is located in Costa Tequise, on Lanzarote’s east coast, forty minutes drive from Playa Blanca, though there is a popular and regular bus service from the resort to the park. Aquapark Costa Tequise comprises many slides and pools of different styles, shapes and depths to cater for younger guests and thrill-seeking adults.

Dining

The marina is home to many excellent eateries and refined restaurants. There is an extensive range of cuisine on offer, but the abundance of local fishing makes seafood a speciality which should not be missed. Papas arrugadas is the signature dish of The Canaries and is traditionally served tapas style, as an accompaniment to a main meal. The basic recipe calls for the smallest new potatoes the chef can find, lashings of salt and a rich tomato sauce, but many modern interpretations see this dish served in new and inspiring ways throughout the islands.
