The last word in Colonial elegance, Singita Ebony is the original Singita lodge. Built in the shade of large Jackleberry trees above the Sand River and featuring twelve completely private guest suites, a large air-conditioned library in the main lodge containing old books on South Africa and its wildlife, it welcomes visitors with the down-to-earth warmth of a much-loved family home. Each suite features original period antiques and a double-sided fireplace as well as private plunge pools and outdoor decking with views across the river. Families with young children or groups of friends travelling together can be accommodated in the Lewis Suites.

  • Facilities: The safari tent style suites allow guests to be immersed by nature are enhanced by the lustre of well-polished ebony, mahogany woods and natural fibres in cool tones, brought to life by the rich, golden glow of old brass, hand-woven baskets, traditional khaki and beige tent canvas. The suites feature outdoor pavilion decks suspended off the river bank, ideal for dining and their own private plunge pool for relaxing and admiring the views.

  • Facilities: The two Lewis Suites are positioned closer to the main lodge making them ideal for families with young children or friends travelling together. Featuring en-suite master bedroom and an en-suite twin bedroom, private plunge pool, dining and lounge veranda area with a stone fireplace, and a private viewing deck with heated plunge pool.

Children of all ages are welcome, and special activities are available including: board games, wildlife shows, cooking and baking with the chefs, visits to local community schools when classes are in session and a chance to partake in the Mini Rangers’ Course which includes: tracking animals; frogging; butterfly capture and release; a cosmic safari (astronomy); learning bush survival techniques; flower-pressing; game-spotting competitions; nature quizzes and a Ranger’s Test. In recognition of their achievements, certificates are distributed to the young participants upon completion of the course.
