Description

In the very heart of Edinburgh's shopping area, on prestigious Princes Street, The Balmoral - meaning 'Majestic Dwelling' in Gaelic - is a multi-award-winning luxury hotel, which opened in 1902 and is acclaimed as being one of the world's greatest railway hotels. Perfectly placed to offer spectacular views of Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town, and conveniently located nearby the city's main attractions, this Scottish grand dame boasts a fabulously ornate façade, along with a unique landmark clock tower - with a clock that runs three minutes ahead of time, so visitors to the city don't miss the trains that run from the neighbouring train station. In addition, the hotel comprises 188 guest rooms and suites - each with a marble bathroom, a Michelin-starred restaurant where sophisticated Scottish and French cuisine can be enjoyed, and the sublime Balmoral Spa, where you can indulge in an ESPA or Jessica treatment, swim in the indoor swimming pool, chill out in the sauna or steam room, or work out in the fully equipped gym. Providing a warm welcome to all its guests, the late Queen Mother was a regular guest for lunch when staying in Scotland, while a great many other notable guests have breezed through the grand entrance over the years en route to their luxurious suites, from Hollywood actresses, to British politicians and rock stars. The Balmoral also adores playing host to families and offers an abundance of facilities and thoughtful amenities to entertain and ensure a comfortable, special stay in this very special, historic city.

In Addition

While exploring the city sights, do take the short trip down to the nearby Ocean Terminal at Leith, where Her Majesty's Royal Yacht Britannia is berthed. This historic ship has played host to countless dignitaries over the years and members of the British royal family holidayed on it annually, until it was taken out of service. The yacht is incredibly well-maintained and it is possible to walk through many of the state rooms and see other private areas of the ship, such as the Queen's bedroom - you can even see the Queen's Rolls-Royce Phantom, which is housed on board. By turns, opulent and understated, the yacht is a classic piece of British history and provides a fascinating insight into the royal family.
