Opened in December 2013 and already garnering a multitude of prestigious accolades from respected sources such as Conde Nast Traveller, the New York Times and the European Hotel Design Awards, The Chedi Andermatt is a relative baby amongst a sea of well-established five star ski hotels in Switzerland and brings to the party amazing interior design with a modern Asian twist so beloved of The Chedi brand, along with superlative service and a real thoughtfulness to offer its guests the kinds of facilities that perfectly complement spending days enjoying snow-based activities. Amongst these is a fabulous, contemporary spa offering sublime Alpine-inspired treatments, a wonderful hydrotherapy pool, Finnish sauna and a temperature-controlled outdoor lap pool. Elsewhere, guests can enjoy dining at the Club House or the two restaurants - which Michelin-starred Asian dishes, plus Swiss and European cuisine - and may relax in a number of restful spots throughout the hotel, where roaring wood-burning fireplaces, intimate bars and cosy faux fur blankets are not far away.

Guest rooms and suites provide the same level of thoughtful touches and beautifully modern, yet unpretentious Oriental-inspired interiors that incorporate fireplaces, balconies, huge picture windows, underfloor heating in the sumptuous bathrooms and wood-clad walls. The synergy of immaculate design is peerless throughout and really adds to the feeling of The Chedi Andermatt being a perfect sanctuary from the chilly, snowy world outside its doors. And when it is time to head outdoors to enjoy the winter scenery, guests can be assured of an effortless transition, with the excellent Ski Butler team organising ski equipment, transportation to and from the slopes, servicing and storage of equipment, along with offering insider tips and important information on daily ski conditions. Based in the stylish Living Room, amongst the vintage skis and log-clad walls, one cannot imagine a more relaxing place in which to prepare for a day on the snow or come back to when you've tired yourself out.

Andermatt is located right in the heart of the Swiss Alps and boasts an amazing climate and a lofty altitude that consistantly provides great snow conditions all winter long.

The resort is undergoing an expansion programme at the moment, with state-of-the-art facilities, such as new lifts, being installed that will allow the resort to become part of Switzerland's largest ski area, offering no fewer than eight-five runs covering 120 kilometres. Just over half of the runs are suitable for intermediate skiers, while the remaining pistes divide equally to offer advanced skiers some excellent deep snow skiing (Gemsstock Mountain is internationally renowned as an excellent off-piste and freeriding destination), and beginners a selection of gentle slopes that are perfect to learn on and build confidence. The resort offers multi-lingual private or group tuition for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities and ages and there's even a children's programme of instruction and childcare available at Andermatt's Swiss Ski Association-certified ski and snowboard school, where skiing, snowboarding and telemarking are taught. Andermatt is a great place for enjoying winter sports and the resort also boasts a cross-country ski centre that employs a number of instructors who can help guide and teach you as you ski along floodlit trails, enjoying the nature and scenery of the Urseren Valley. For snowboarders and skiers to learn tricks and improve skills there is a snowpark, while the Natschen area gets the best sun and boasts gentle slopes that are ideal for families. Complementing the skiing and snowboarding offering, Andermatt has rental and demo shops that can provide the latest branded equipment, while repair shops offer an overnight service. Conveniently, skiers can get about within the resort using the complimentary shuttle service, which runs throughout the winter season.

For skiers and snowboarders who may wish to experience several resorts in one ski holiday, the Glacier Express railway passes through Andermatt en route to the resorts of Zermatt and St Moritz.
